Hazard Guide
Identifying, Assessing, and Controlling Hazards

Evaluate Severity

Determine how bad the consequences could be if the hazard were to cause harm. Use these key questions:

What Kind of Injury or Illness Could Happen?

Consider the worst-case scenario. Could it lead to cuts and bruises, or something more serious like falls from height?

How Serious Could the Harm Be?

Think about whether an incident could cause minor injuries, long-term health issues, or even be life-threatening.

Are There Factors That Could Make Injuries Worse?

Consider site conditions, such as working at heights, near traffic, or with hazardous materials that could increase the severity of an incident.

What's the Potential Long-Term Impact?

Think beyond immediate injuries. Could there be lasting health effects or disabilities?

Use your answers to rate the potential severity using your matrix scale.
