Identifying, Assessing, and Controlling Hazards

2.1   When to Conduct a Risk Assessment

Risk assessments are proactive measures aimed at safeguarding workers. Activities like workplace inspections and investigations are forms of risk assessment. A full-site risk assessment is a best practice that aids in more effective worker protection planning.

You can perform the risk assessment yourself if your organization is small and well-versed in the requirements. For larger organizations, collaborate with the worker health and safety representative or the joint health and safety committee.

For organizations with multiple locations, each site should have its own risk assessment, as hazards can vary. Regularly review and update your assessments, especially when introducing new equipment, materials, or processes. At the very least, annual updates are recommended.
